Family Camps

“Come to me, all of you who are tired and have heavy loads, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28)

Family Camps are precious times to strengthen family relationships, and a chance to be refreshed spiritually, emotionally and physically. Campers are able to take time out from their ordinary lives, leaving busyness or worries behind for a few moments, while they enjoy uninterrupted time to have fun and relax. Some time is set aside to reflect on deeper issues of life and experience in the loving support of a caring community. A truly ‘all ages’ event, the camp enables people to share life in a relaxed, caring environment.

Family Camp South

Family Camp South is held at the Blue Lagoon Christian Camp Centre in Dodges Ferry – around 50km east of Hobart. It’s for families, couples or individuals who want to get away in a friendly, relaxed environment. All accommodation is in cabins, allowing families to have their own private space when required. The program includes all-age sessions as well as activities for different age groups, and plenty of free time.

Where: Dodges Ferry
When: 8-12 Jan 2018
Cost: Adults – $270; Ages 12-18 – $250; Ages 5-11 – $230; Ages 0-5 – Free

2018 Family Camp South Report

The greatest commandment is to love God with our heart, mind, soul and strength. At SU Family Camp South 2018 (8-12 Jan 2018) at the Blue Lagoon campsite in Dodges Ferry, we learnt what this commandment means today under the theme of ‘Journey of a Lifetime’.

It was one of the larger camps we have had in the last few years with just over 60 people involved. There were many new faces with adult campers outnumbered by the children. It was a wonderful opportunity for families to take that time out from a wide variety of life circumstances. For some parents and grandparents, it was their first time off in years.

This year we excited to use the recently completed recreation hall for our kids’ program. We also gave the opportunity for the mothers (and grandmothers) to head out for a special morning tea at a local establishment in the middle of the week.

At the end of camp there were families already talking about next year, booking their holidays and looking for opportunities to catch up throughout the year. We are all a part of God’s family and we aim to make the camp experience one that invites and welcomes everyone in as a part of that family.

A big thank you to the leaders and kitchen crew who turned the week into an amazing experience for all who attended. And thank you to the donations of churches and local organisations that assist families in attending this camp.
